Steel

Steel was chosen for its strength in a slim profile and low cost compared to other metals like aluminum. Steel is also easily formed, welded, and machined which aids in manufacturing.

Fabric

The largest area of the light is formed from a tensile structure of fabric. Stretching the fabric over the steel rails allows for a lightweight structure that can collapse into a small package for shipping. The fabric shade also allows for printed graphics or other textures on the outside surface to coordinate with the environment.

Wood

The base of the chair is made from a preformed plywood cylinder. The makes a solid base for the structure and offers customization of upholstery.
